One day i'll be a reporter

I've done a little brainstorm on my own, to find a creative idea in order to go further with the class ...

And guess what ???? I've find something wich could be not so difficult to do and really interactive for every participants.

Try to imagine :

to realize my project you just need to have a cam, a microphone and motivated persons.

The aim is to talk english using the tools that we have dicovered during the course ...

One will be the interviewer and others will be some kind of participants, they find a debate, an interesting topic, like the importance of new technologies in our life, and a way to talk about it originaly...

Yes with this new exercise you' re a reporter and you make reports for the CELSA WEB TV wich could be diffused by youtube or dailymotion for instance ...

A new way to talk english, to get to know well new tools, and to create interesting discussions...

Let's do this with your next students Bob I rely on you :)

Have you ever heard about Second Life ???
This game is a real success on the web, thus if you just decide to create an avatar on the game you can live a life that is really different from your real life...
Brand are present on the site like American apparel, politics are creating debates on this virtual world, people can win money with their own business, or they can just meet plenty of different persons.

It's just like a virtual economy wich is developing on the web, it looks like a strange future !

We've got to do something !

Working on a wiki project was really interesting and after more than an hour on it I have got a new idea for the english course !
Please we have got to do something, people just forget the english bases like : go => goes or the fact that you've got to say "it" and not "him" or "her" when your talking about a firm or something else...
It's normal to do mistakes but we could find a way to help people to progress !
What about doing the work on group of two people ? Working with somebody else could improve the english level and it will be positive for each member of the team ...

Have you ever heard about e label ? For one of our course we're working with Warner, one of the fourth Major of the musical industry.
The want to develop their proper e Label. But what exactly is an e label ???
An e label could be define as a label online, it does the same as a classical label but it does it on the internet.
This type of label is reserved to emergent bands that are looking for celebrity. E label promote exclusively bands on the web but it gives them a way to be promoted by professional and to be heard by plenty of pleople allover the world. If your music works on the web, your CD can be producted by the label and it will sell it everywhere, including on "real stores"...
E labels are the future for emergent bands, it gives them plenty of opportunities that's why if you want to learn more about this just seach on the internet you will find all the information that you need !

Creativity !! English class as a TV show ...

I don't know if you're aware of the fact that I do this blog for an english course. This time I'm gonna think about a way to improve the course and the interactivity between people in order to make more progress....
"Brainstorming time"
Hum difficult question, but I think that we're in class together and we only talk with our teacher. Every work is individual, but we're gonna work on team in our future job so it's could be interesting to do the same during the class. Doing groups of 3 for example, working on a particular theme trying to find good arguments and setting a debate at the end of the class, like a big talk show !!! Or let's do this as a podcast sharing it on our blogs ... I'm sure that we gonna be so brilliant :)

Today let's talk about RSS !
But to talk efficiently about RSS we have to know exactly what is RSS. As you know that, my favourite definition maker is ... WIKIPEDIA !

RSS (file format), Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary, several similar forms of web syndication used by news websites and weblogs.

RSS feeds allow users to subscribe to their favorite websites. Using RSS, webmasters can put their content into a standardized format, which can be viewed and organized through RSS-aware software or automatically conveyed as new content on another website.
Programs known as feed readers or aggregators can check a list of feeds on behalf of a user and display any updated articles that they find.

Help me protecting from criminality !

Cybercrime is a term used broadly to describe criminal activity in which computers or networks are a tool, a target, or a place of criminal activity.
his term is also used to include traditional crimes in which computers or networks are used to enalbe the illicit activity.
Many thanks to Wikipedia that has always perfect definitions :)
Now that everybody know what is cybercrime let's take concrete examples to illustrate my text:
Everybody can be victim of cybercrimes, for example when you pay for an onlines service hackers can steal your bank id and use it on other websites... To bad !
Or when you're publishing artistics contents on a blog without protecting its you can be victim of an intelectual property theft ! Think about all the hours you've spend on your texts...All the imagination you had to mobilize in order to make something funny and brilliant, everything can be reappropriate to anybody else in one seconds because of cybercrimes so be careful !!!
I have chosen this example because I edit plenty of texts on my own French blog and I'm gonna be really disapointed to be a robbers' victim...
A good way to protect yourself from cybercrime is to protect your intelectual property thanks to free licence like CC. Just go on the official website and let see how it works. It's easy, free and quicky ! Protect yourself and after you could published all that you want without any fear !!!

All about You Tube

You Tube is a new kind of social networks which appeared in 2005. It has been created by three former employees of PayPal. Their idea was to use the internet in order to display video. It’s a kind of huge data basis proposing every types of videos like movies, TV programs or music clip. There is actually 67 employees.
This month Google Inc had reached a deal to acquire the company for 1.67 billion dollars.

I think that the key success factor of You tube is the fact that it has been the first site to propose so much free different videos. Now, You tube is THE reference when you're looking for a video like Google is the reference concerning search engines.

I must admit that I'm a regular user of You Tube, I use it to find funny examples to illustrate my blog, I watch music videos that you can't see on french TV or international TV programs...It is much like an entertainment to me !

But You Tube can be considered as a commercial tool to. We can imagine that in the future companies would pay to acquire You Tube consumers data basis. It would allow them to find new consumers refering to the type of videos they dowload...

We'll see what You Tube is gonna be !

It's so complicated !

Ok, we have already say that you need to be patient and disciplined to make a good use of the internet.
To my mind those two characteristics are obviously linked to an other one which is PERSEVERANCE.
If you'll have to do anything on the web you must be perseverant, as things are never as easy as it seems. Information is often a road to complication. Take part of the "virtuous ring" of good skills development.
If you begin to be patient, perseverance gonna touch you soon and it's the same with discipline. Join the ring of good users !

My teacher is a computer

You really want to learn english ? Ok no problem internet is here for you...
Every teacher will say that to be fluent in english you need to practice.
Let's use social networks, looking for people with the same professional or artistic interests and have a regular chat with them. You will learn many expressions that you'll nerver learn on class.
More than chatting with people you'll have to learn new vocabulary and a good way to do it is to read ! CNN, the Times and every newspapers are available online, read it instead of reading "Le Monde".
After that you will need a break, no problem do it in english too !
Go on Youtube or Dailymotion and dowload english videos... It'll be funny and useful.
If you follow all the previous advices you'll be really talkative in english and you could edit your proper blog :)

Sometimes things take time !

Since you must focus on long-term versus short-term results, you must develop a certain degree of patience. Without it, you will become too frustrated and will be more tempted to choose unethical alternatives. Patience is a key competence to succeed, all projects are often build on long term as I have already said. For exemple if you try to promote your music you've got to develop you're network, in order to be link with other bands, find places to play and new fans ! The Artic Monkeys signed with their label thanks to the success of their "MySpace" ... Patience can be successful !

Let’s take a personal example for discipline !
All students know that plenty of information is available on the web. Internet is becoming one of our first reflex to find pertinent contents.
But is this so easy ?
I would say NO ! Just writing a general research on Google or any search engines you would be in front of a huge amount of content.
It gives you access to documents from different sources that can be institutional, administrative, organizational or personal. So you must be very disciplined ! Taking care of the source and its legitimacy is essential and if you really want to do a good assignment and find perspicacious answers :

The internet is a world that could be considered as a big social network. Some sites are totally based on GENEROSITY, let’s take a well known example : YouTube In fact it’s like a huge database full of every types of videos. On You Tube you could find all that you want, personal videos, soap, or video clip, everything is available thanks to the participation of users. Anybody can post a video and share it allover the world. Users’ generosity supports the success of the website. In just one year You Tube became one of the most visited website of the world and the main place to download videos online. 100 millions videos are consulted each day and it has 20 millions visitors a day !

Express yourself ! Save the internet

There is different definitions of web neutrality and one of these says that the expression refers to the absence of restrictions placed on the type of content carried over the Internet. It implies that content is not examined, and no priority is given to any traffic.

To my point of view, if we refer to this definition, web neutrality can be dangerous as the net would not be submitted to any restrictions at all. Prejudicial contents could be find by anybody, and it seems to be a bit utopist thinking that everybody would make a good use of the Internet.

We can also consider network neutrality as networks that don't favor some destinations over others, or classes of application over others. It refers to the behavior of those who actually run networks , the Internet Service Providers, rather than those who design them, and indicates whether those ISPs attempt to systematically discriminate in the routing of the packets they process. The internet Service Providers are dominating the information’s circulation. Considering this definition, it would be good to support web neutrality as all sources must be examinated by users that are looking for information.

Podcast or not podcast… that is the question

What is a podcast ?

“A digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player”

To my mind, this definition is a little bit simplistic as now podcast is more developed, It can be consulted and realized by everybody. A podcast is meant to be share and view as much as possible by people allover the world.

That is why I prefer the Wikipedia definition :

“A podcast is a multimedia file distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers”.

And now let’s see the word’s Etymology

Podcast is a contraction of

iPod and broadcast .

The word belongs to Apple. The brand has registered it in order to avoid confusion in the consumers’ mind. But this registered trademark set a problem : it is true that the word owes itself partly to Apple's iPod. But, as we have already said, the world has also moved to the point of calling all mp3 players as "iPods", regardless of manufacturer. Some people are currently trying to find a solution proposing the word “netcast” as a substitute but it seems to be difficult as now the term “podcast” has been adopted by nearly all users. To change mentalities happens to be an “impossible mission”...

Everybody is watching you !

To my mind, the increasing emergence of social networks in France is the most important development on the web in the last six months. Ok it’s not so original, but I have recently discovered Myspace and I must say that I’m totally addicted now ! You can talk with people that you’ll never met before, listen emergent bands, keep in touch with people all over the world and express yourself freely… it give you an open space to express your creativity and your personality and it could be a good way to improve originally your CV if you want to work in an e-company or a creative agency…
This new phenomenon concerns everybody, according to the magazine Fortune, 87% of the Myspace users are more than 18 years old and 52% more than 35 years old…
And look at this picture, the Myspace social network has now 83 millions users and this figure is increasing day by day !
